# bluraf's quick 'n dirty review of Jolla Phone (2026) tl;dr even if you won't get freaked out by hostile Android applications, some parts of OS and hardware are undercooked. ## hardware - Despite being big, it can be still hold quite comfortably - Also, because of it's size, I can't reach top border of the screen with a thumb - Camera is good enough, I guess? - TODO: post link to photo gallery here (after: Hikari 2026) - Speaker audio is bad. sounds like a 15 y.o. Samsung phone without any DSP. Please calibrate speakers and add psychoacoustic bass enhancement, it's not rocket science (ask Asahi Linux folks). - It got "mogged" by Nokia E72. Seriously. (no bass at all, but much cleaner sound) - I wouldn't care much if I could connect wired headphones, but since there's no 3.5" Jack, I need to either use Bluetooth headphones or an USB DAC - There's AMOLED display. This phone is next in line of Nokia N9 successors. Why there is no Always-On Display? - At least tap to wake is still there, but it takes almost one second after second tap until lock screen animation ends. ## base os - Fluid interface, easy to learn - Integration with Mastodon on Notifications feed might not work properly, if you're using instance running different software - e.g. Akkoma doesn't support links redirecting to other instances in new format (`/authorize_interaction?uri=<upstream post URL>`) - Nice to see that weather data are pulled from yr.no - Browser's UX is worse than Firefox on iOS: no gesture to close tab in tabs view; back and tabs buttons are too far from my thumb - Also browser: banner on Discourse/forum.sailfishos.org warning about soon-to-be unsupported browser on a brand new device looks sad. Jolla, you need to step up with Gecko updates. You might also want to prepare plan B. - Keyboard: I miss swiping to write :( also, word prediction feels kinda useless, unless it needs more training on user's input (at least in Polish keyboard) - TODO: test more native apps ## AppSupport a.k.a. fuck you. This part is mostly for integration stuff, apps broken due to integrity checks are in "Hall Of Shame" subsection. Tested with microG logged into my main account. - (A)GPS doesn't work (if app got any coords, it's stuck at Null Island). Reproduced with Google Maps, Telegram, Yanosik, Instagram - After leaving music player (with music still played), there won't be anything on main screen to control playback - only on lock screen. Reproduced with Spotify. - TODO: Test banking apps, mObywatel, social apps, IMs, streaming. ### Hall Of Shame (a.k.a. fuck you twice) - Telegram only worked when downloaded from Aurora Store. APK from Telegram.org wanted my card data to pay for verification SMS. Third-party applications, including native Yottagram, were stuck waiting for code that never came. - Instagram forced a password reset when trying to log in.
